Teacher Philosophy

As an art teacher, I will teach my students how to implement their interests, their culture, and who they are into their artwork. By creating lessons, assignments, and assessments that revolve around the needs of my students. By creating a child-centered, constructivist learning environment my students will take an active role in their learning. The students will have the opportunity to tell me what they thought of the lesson, and I will use their feedback to improve myself.

In my classroom, I will implement artists and big ideas that are important to all cultural backgrounds. Through this, I will boost the engagement of my students by making their lessons culturally and socially relevant. By facilitating my students in the learning of artists of the past and teaching them how these skills live on and are involved thanks to the artist of today. I will show them that every student can have a voice in art and that art doesn't all have to look the same.

Once my students have left the classroom, they will have learned how art can be for everyone. I will create a classroom where my students can feel comfortable to create no matter their skill level or needs. My classroom will adapt to their needs and Promotes equity. For example, all biases and assumptions stay outside the classroom door. This goes especially for me since I am the one setting the tone of the classroom. If my students don’t feel comfortable using material or have difficulties, we will work together to find alternatives so all can take part in the art-making. By working with the students their parents and learning about their community, I will create a place where long-lasting learning can happen.
